South Carolina is a definite dark-horse to win it all, and don't count out Carolina, the boys in blue can play. Shit, on second though, they haven't been to Omaha since the 80s. Why should we expect different this year?
Bootney Farnsworth
Texas, again, is at the top. Problem is that they could stand to have another guy who smashes the hell out of the ball. They lose more 3-2 type games than anyone. Even when they won the title a couple of years ago (2002), they struggled at times offensively during the season.

Only an Aggie would really think that he's going to leave Houston to go to College Station at the age of 69. His entire coaching career has been in Harris County.
Following his playing days, Graham returned to UT to receive his B.S. in physical education in 1970, and he added a master’s of education from the University of Houston in 1973.
Graham’s coaching career began at Houston’s Scarborough High School. In nine seasons at Scarborough and one at Spring Branch, Graham’s teams compiled a 98-13 (.883) district record, won seven district titles and never finished lower than second place in the district race.
After 10 successful seasons on the high school level, Graham moved on to San Jacinto, where he proceeded to turn the Gators into the nation’s most celebrated JC team. His first squad in 1981(featuring freshman Roger Clemens) went 43-7 and
finished second in the Texas JC ranks. The following two seasons brought 89 more victories(only 22 losses) and a pair of conference titles.
Graham was just getting started. In 1984, he led the Gators to the first of seven consecutive 50-win seasons and the national JC tournament. A loss in the championship game only served to fuel the fires that would lead to three straight national titles in 1985-87. Another runner-up showing in 1988 was followed by two more titles in 1989 and 1990, giving the Gators five championships in a six-year span while preparing dozens of players for major college and/or professional careers.
Graham’s honors at San Jac were nearly endless. He was named the national JC coach of the year five times and the top Texas JC coach six times. Never one to avoid a challenge, Graham left the Gator dynasty to build the Owls into a perennial power. It was a job and a challenge that he had always wanted.
What is left for a man who has 31 straight winning seasons at the high school and collegiate level and has won nearly 80 percent of his games on the collegiate level (1,157-351 in 24 seasons at Rice and San Jacinto)? A second national championship, to be precise. With Reckling Park as the Owls' home and the venue for four NCAA Regionals in 2001-02-03-04, plus Super Regionals in 2002-03, Graham has all the pieces in place to sustain Rice at the highest level.
Graham and his wife Tanya live in Houston. She received her Rice degree in human performance and exercise science in May, 1999.

Let's see. 69 year old Wayne Graham will leave Harris County in which he has spent his entire coaching career and a successful program with a number of young hot freshmen not to coach at his alma mater (Texas) but so that the team he coaches can play against his alma mater more often. And he wouldn't be leaving for massively more money (which would be valid reason) or for a more prestigious institution (I mean in baseball, football of course he'd leave).
By the way, the Longhorns played Rice twice this year, but played EaTmE 3 times. Great reason to leave.

I dont know exactly why he wants the job, but he does.

Graham accepts contract extension
By MOISEKAPENDA BOWER
Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle
• Complete Chronicle coverage
OMAHA, NEB. - Rice baseball coach Wayne Graham has agreed in
principle to a contract extension offered in May by Rice athletic
director Bobby May.
Graham, 69, had an additional year added to the four that remained
on his current contract. Graham took over the program in 1992 and
led Rice to the 2003 national title.
"It's pretty clear he's done a great job," May said. "It sends a
very positive message to the coach, his staff, the players and the
recruits."
Graham said the extension provides recruits the knowledge that he
isn't departing. Graham has been linked to the Texas A&M opening with other prominent coaches.
Rice finished this season 45-19, eliminated in a super regional by top-ranked Tulane. With 14 freshmen and sophomores on his 25-player postseason roster, Graham has the Owls poised to make another run at a national title next season. And Graham's age had little bearing on extending his contract through 2010.
"That doesn't enter into my thinking at all," May said. "As far as I'm concerned, he's ageless. If anything, he's speeding up, not slowing down. He's the right man for the job."

Texas A&M given OK to contact Rice's Graham
Associated Press
HOUSTON - Texas A&M has been given permission to interview Rice baseball coach Wayne Graham, Rice athletic director Bobby May told a Houston television station.
Graham led Rice to its first national championship in 2003. His Owls were ousted from the NCAA Super Regionals by Tulane on Monday.
Texas A&M is searching for a successor to longtime coach Mark Johnson, who was fired in May after the Aggies failed to make the playoffs.
"Obviously, Rice is the program I've built and am very proud of. So there's a lot to think about in a situation like this," Graham told KRIV.
Rice awarded Graham another one-year contract extension earlier this week. His contract would keep with the Owls through 2010, when he would be 74.

A&M also asked for and received permission to talk to Cal State Fullerton coach George Horton.

Awesome (and shitty sort of) play in the A&M-oSu game on Sunday. A&M player hits a homerun. Outfielder leaps at the fence and comes down with glove up appearing to show a caught ball. A&M runner on first base retreats to tag up, while batter reaches first base and rounds the bag as if it is an out.
Basically, batter is then out on 3 unassisted after a single for passing the runner ahead of him, who then rounds the bases and scores on the homerun.
To top off the fake, the oSu outfielder hits the game winning homerun, and oSU won the game by...you guessed it...one run.

Funny my days of going to the ballpark and actually watching the game are long gone. Generally dragging two daughters around and making runs to the snack shack, bathroom, train ride and finally the make shift amusement park they have set up in the outfield.
Food and beer is all I got so it better be good.
Been to 8 Stingers games this year and I can honestly say I've watched less than 3 innings.

some kids enjoy it more than others. I loved it when I was a kid, but I am sure my attention span might not have been as long as my fathers. heh.
Where are the Stingers from?

Salt Lake, AAA team for the Angels.
We've been lucky over the years to see most of the core for the good Twins teams of the late 90's and now the Angels.

Yep that would be them.

I'm going to call my shot. Texas A&M will win the CWS this year. We've got ridiculous amounts of pitching this year.

We'll mark that one down.... right next to Redbird predicting a Cardinal WS win in 09.
Red Bird
Jeez. I forgot all about making that prediction . . .
Let's see who wins the Hot Stove League first. We're still a few pieces short of solving the puzzle.

What a fucking abomination. Carpet around the bases and home plate? Digging in the batters box means scraping your spikes over orange rubber? Sliding into second means risking rug burn? Jesus christ. Why the hell didnt they use the stuff on the mound as well? Might as well go all out.

Texas Tech has a turf infield and a grass outfield. I never could figure that one out.

Texas used to have that setup as well. Actually, I just looked up Dan Law Field to remind myself what it looks like and they are doing the same thing Texas is.
